Moving off-campus can be a very intimidating part of college, and leaving the comfort and familiarity of dorms is a big step. You’re on your own now — you have to cook and clean for yourself, do your own laundry and make sure you didn’t leave your stove on before leaving the house.
Today, sadness is deemed a weakness and an emotion that should be avoided at all costs. Fortunately, this is a resolvable misconception. Sadness should be embraced and recognized as one of the most influential emotions that the human body is capable of producing and appreciated for its abili…

A seven-run fourth inning helped the No. 14 Virginia Tech baseball team (2–1) elevate past the College of Charleston (1–2) on Sunday evening. With this 15–2 victory, the Hokies won their opening weekend series.
The Hokies broke out the sledgehammer for the first time this season in that huge fourth inning when Eddie Eisert, the NC State transfer, hit a two-run homer into right field that put the Hokies up 6–1. This was Eisert’s first hit in a Hokies’ uniform. Jack Hurley, one of Tech’s star players from a season ago, also hit a home run in the fourth inning, his being a three-run homer.
The two home runs were huge for the Hokies in the fourth inning, but the reason why there were so many baserunners in the inning was due to the number of errors committed by the Cougars. The Cougars had six errors on the day, with four of those coming in the fourth inning alone.
On the pitching side of things, Grant Umberger, in his third year with the Hokies, picked up his first collegiate win. Umberger pitched three innings; before Sunday, he had never pitched more than one for the Hokies, had two strikeouts, didn’t allow any runs allowed and allowed only three hits.
The Hokies had an effective day in the pitching department in general, with the Hokies only using three pitchers on the day. The other two pitchers were Anthony Arguelles, in his first start since transferring to Tech, and Griffin Stieg. Arguelles pitched for the first four innings. He struck out six in those innings and allowed four hits. Stieg pitched the final two innings for the Hokies.
Outside of the fourth inning, one other Hokie sent a ball over the outfield fence. In the fifth inning, Garrett Michel hit a solo shot over the wall that extended the Hokie lead to a whopping 10–1.
This win for the Hokies improved their record to 2–1 on the season and secured their first series win of the year. The Hokies will be looking to improve their record starting on Tuesday when they will host ETSU in their first of a 13-game home stretch.
